Calvin Klein is one of the most well-known luxury U.S. brands, and is stocked in countless stores across the world. It experienced meteoric growth in the 1980s and 90s, with iconic celebrities such as Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Wahlburg all representing the brand. The Calvin Klein style is almost immediately recognizable, with strong, linear shapes, simple (often monochromatic) fabrics, and uncompromising designs.

History of the Luxury U.S. Brand

Although Calvin Klein’s brand is most closely linked with the fashion of the 1980s and 90s, it was first established almost two decades earlier. In 1968, with just $10,000 to spend, Klein opened a store selling coats in the York Hotel in NYC. Shortly after, he launched his first range in Bonwit Teller, with an emphasis on ‘youthful, understated clothes and dresses’ – a core value that the brand still remains loyal to, to this day. Calvin Klein was sold to Phillips Van Heusen Corp in 2002, who focused on making the range as accessible as possible to people across the world.

Famous Underwear

The brand is perhaps most well-known for its ground-breaking underwear designs. Back in the early 1980s, men’s underwear was typically white and functional, without much concern for fashion. Calvin Klein’s underwear designs challenged the way in which male underwear was perceived, making a conventionally unfashionable item suddenly very desirable to a mass market. Their current underwear selection features items for both men and women.

All-American Style

Calvin Klein’s range, which includes clothing, plus accessories and underwear, features a wide variety of wearable tee shirts, classic cut jeans, tailored jackets and slouchy sweaters. Although a world-renowned designer brand, many of the pieces are surprisingly affordable. To view the full range, or to find out more about the company, please visit the Calvin Klein website today.
