John Varvatos is a well-known luxury US brand, and is regarded as one of the top menswear designers in the country. In addition to his own fashion range, Varvatos has worked for some of the most famous design houses in the world, such as Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein. His casual yet sculpted garments are designed to epitomize the American man, whilst flattering and accentuating his natural shape.

Boxer Briefs for Men

Before establishing his own range of clothes for men, Varvatos worked at Ralph Lauren from 1983 to 1990, then moved to Calvin Klein, where he was appointed head of menswear. During his time at Calvin Klein, he designed one of the brand’s most famous garments – the boxer brief, made famous thanks to Mark Walhburg’s memorable ad campaign. In 1995, Varvatos returned to Ralph Lauren and established the Polo Jeans Company.

Rock Credentials and Celebrity Status

In addition to setting up his own fashion designs for men, Varvatos is also well known for his role as mentor on hit US TV show, Fashion Star. This propelled him firmly into the limelight, establishing him as a celebrity, as well as a fashion designer. In ad campaigns for his brand, Varvatos often hired the help of rock stars, such as Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Green Day. Indeed, he attributes his love of fashion to his early obsession with rock music.
