With the tagline ‘nasty gals do it better’, it was inevitable that this luxury US brand was going to get a lot of attention! In addition to its new designer pieces, the brand also sells a wide range of vintage clothing. In the years that it has been in operation, the company not only produces a wide selection of clothing for women, but also actively promotes empowerment for females, and is behind the online campaign #GirlBoss, encouraging women to become financially independent and true to themselves.

From EBay to Worldwide Attention

Nasty Gal was created by Sophia Amoruso in 2006, and was initially a small venture. Amoruso sold vintage clothing through her eBay store, with an emphasis on selecting only the best items for her customers. Her reputation quickly spread, and soon after, she established the Nasty Gal website, selling a variety of new and vintage clothes to women across the world. The name was inspired by the song ‘Nasty Gal’, and Amoruso cited Betty Davis as her role model, calling her the ‘patron saint of badass women’.

Blending Vintage with New

On the Nasty Gal site, there is a wide range of vintage pieces, including designer names such as Chanel, Versace, Paco Rabanne and Dolce & Gabbana. In the new clothing range, there are a variety of garments available to buy, including glamorous, sultry evening dresses, punk-inspired jackets and tops, edgy tee shirts with band names emblazoned across them, and pretty underwear sets.
