For decades, Ralph Lauren’s clothing brand has been the preferred choice of celebrities and fashion-lovers across the world, and as the 21st century progresses, his influence shows no sign of abating. This luxury U.S. brand, which now stocks not only clothing for men and women, but a range of other items too, remains firmly linked with classic cuts, flattering designs and effortlessly wearable fashion.

From Ties to Fashion Ranges

In his mid-twenties, Ralph Lauren quit his day-job to sell ties out of a drawer in the Empire State Building, made out of rag material. He began selling his ties to local stores in New York, and his big break came when Neiman Marcus ordered 1,200.

With backing from Norman Hilton, a clothing manufacturer in Manhattan, Lauren was finally able to open his own store, still selling neckties, under his own design name, ‘Polo’. Throughout the 1970s, his reputation grew, and he became a firm fixture in the public eye after his clothing was used for hit films such as The Great Gatsby and Annie Hall.

The Iconic Ralph Lauren Polo Shirt

One of Ralph Lauren’s most instantly recognizable items of clothing is the classic polo shirt, which was first launched in the 1970s. To this day, the Ralph Lauren polo shirt remains synonymous with preppy, laid-back style, and is celebrated for its flexibility, being suitable for both genders, and wearable with a number of different clothing combinations.

Luxury U.S. Brand from NY

Although Ralph Lauren has now officially stood down as CEO of the company, his clothing still remains popular across the world. His ranges include all types of clothing for men, women, children and babies, in addition to accessories, gifts and homeware.
